Rare earth market update on October 21, 2025
The domestic rare earth market continues to exhibit a bearish downward trend, primarily due to reduced market demand and a high willingness among suppliers to lower prices for shipments. According to CTIA GROUP LTD Online, since the end of the National Day holiday, the enthusiasm of many downstream users to engage in operations has declined, compounded by China's strengthened controls on rare earth exports, which have limited export demand growth—these two factors are key reasons for the drop in market demand. In this context, suppliers' confidence in maintaining prices has weakened, naturally leading to lower product prices. However, it is noteworthy that the recent significant decline in praseodymium-neodymium prices has brought them closer to the production cost line, with cost support becoming notably stronger, thus narrowing the extent of price reductions by suppliers. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide, praseodymium-neodymium metal, and 52M neodymium-iron-boron blank blocks decreased by approximately RMB 2,000 per ton, RMB 5,000 per ton, and RMB 3 per kilogram, respectively.
In terms of news, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in September, 36 out of 41 major industrial categories recorded year-on-year growth in added value. Chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing increased by 9.0%, non-metallic mineral products industry by 0.2%, ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing by 2.2%, non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing by 8.4%, general equipment manufacturing by 9.3%, specialized equipment manufacturing by 5.4%, automobile manufacturing by 16.0%, railway, shipbuilding, aerospace, and other transportation equipment manufacturing by 10.3%, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing by 7.9%, computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing by 11.3%, and electricity, heat production, and supply by 0.5%.
